My Christmas Plans this year….

In Germany, we celebrate Christmas Eve on the 24th. That’s also when we exchange presents. So about a week before that, we’ll buy a real Christmas tree at a small Christmas market nearby. Back at home, we decorate it with the kids. On the 24th, the husband and I will spend most of the day cooking (while also trying to entertain the kids…). We usually eat three courses. This year it’s a soup (probably parsnip), followed by a roasted duck, cooked red cabbage, and bread dumplings, and then as a dessert, probably marzipan panna cotta.

In the afternoon we read Christmas stories and sing, then I and the kids go watch the Christmas story in our local church while the husband makes sure the presents find their way under the tree. When we return the kids have to wait in their room until the bell rings (announcing Santa) and then they can unwrap their presents. After that they can play a bit before we have dinner together.

On the 25th, we usually have another festive dinner, and on the 26th again, but this time with friends. So our Christmas is filled with plenty of delicious food!

Lots of love,
Cora

  1. Dear Cora, how lovely to read about your family’s Christmas traditions in Germany. My family and i live in the Netherlands, so most of the things you described sound familiar.
This year we will travel on Christmas day to visit my side of the family in Greece and spend the holidays there!
Christmas is all about family, traditions and love and i am very much looking farward to this trip.
I am wishing you and your family Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
